“It pays to challenge HMRC!”

One of our recent cases has highlighted that it is always worthwhile taking advice and challenging HMRC when they indicate they will assess.

In this case HMRC contacted our client and indicated that they considered that they had misdeclared imported goods and so had underpaid £30,000 import duty and VAT. The company contacted us for advice as to whether this could be challenged and if so how. We reviewed what the imported goods are and made suitable representation as to why the business had declared the correct import duty and VAT. HMRC’s technical team confirmed our view and an assessment averted.

Remember, just because HMRC think they are owed money, doesn’t necessarily mean that is the case.
